Starfox 64 (aka Lylat Wars) is still held in high regard by shooter fans, and for good reason. Simply put, this is one of the best entries ever in the genre.

At first blush, Starfox 64 seems to be your standard "fly forward and blast anything that gets in your way" kind of game. But there's actually a lot of strategy needed, most notably in the form of your wingmen.

There are many times where you must debate whether to protect them or yourself, and how you act in those situations actually has a bearing on how the game unfolds.

There's also a nice bit of variety thrown in with a few land and sea based levels. These bring on a different take on the gameplay which helps things from feeling repetitive. Some note must also be made of the multiple paths you can take, which gives Starfox 64 a lot of replay value.

When you add in a surprisingly addictive multiplayer deathmatch mode, Starfox 64 ends up being a near-perfect package. Sure, the graphics are a bit dated now, and the controller rumbling feature from the N64 version is missing.

But overall, Starfox 64 is one of the best investments you can make on the VC, hands down.
