The Virtual Console has become known as the place to go for old-school shooter goodness, so it takes a lot for a new release to stand out. Well, VC fans, stand up and take notice, because MUSHA has arrived and it's going to rock your world.

Long considered one of the best examples of the genre during the 16-bit era, copies of MUSHA regularly go for $100 or more on EBay. While those prices are inflated since this game was orignally made in a limited run, shooter fans have long known the joys of this game, and now you can have it for the relative pittance of 800 Wii points.

The story is based on a popular anime, and is set up quite well via an excellent intro sequence. But let's not fool ourselves as shooter fans -- if we wanted pretty cutscenes, there's plenty of games out there that can deliver those. It's all about the acutal gameplay with these types of releases, and MUSHA delivers it in droves.

It's one of those rare shooters that seems almost maddeningly difficult at first, but once you get a hold of the game's style, it provides a heart-pumping, sweat-inducing, fist-pumping train straight to the heart of shooter bliss.
